I have been adventuring with my cats for over five years now. My little adventurers Sophie, Kylo Ren, and Gryphon love everything from hiking and canoeing to road-tripping and camping. In all of our travels, the most common question we get is, “Is that a cat?!” People are always surprised to see my cats out on a hiking trail wearing a harness and leash. The truth is, although more people are starting to train their cats and take them out on adventures, it is not the norm.
I’d love to see leash-trained cats become more commonplace. I believe that enriching your cat’s life with adventure, big or small, will help to give your cat a more fulfilled life. Letting your cat experience the sights, smells, and sounds of the outside world (while harnessed and leashed, of course) brings joy and excitement to their life they can’t otherwise experience. Sharing a special activity like exploring together will also build and strengthen the bond you have with your cat.
One of my biggest goals with my blog KittyCatGO is to educate, encourage, and help others to have successful cat adventures. In an effort to inspire others to get out there and try new things with their cat, I created the KittyCatGO Adventure Challenge.
What is the KittyCatGO Adventure Challenge?
The Adventure Challenge is a list of 50 tasks, ranging in difficulty level from beginner to advanced. It’s a fun way to get new ideas of things to do with your cat, and it provides a little extra push for those who have been toying with the idea of adventuring with their cat but haven’t yet taken the plunge.
How do I join the Challenge?
Anybody can join the challenge at any time, and participants can choose tasks to complete in any order they wish. You just take photos or videos of you and your cat completing the different tasks and share them in 1 of 2 ways:
- Post in our Facebook Group, KittyCatGO Adventure Team
- Post on Instagram and use the hashtag #kittycatgoadventurechallenge
Whichever entry method you choose, be sure to specify which task numbers you are completing.
As you complete the tasks, always remember to keep your cat’s safety and comfort as your top priority. Don’t force them to do something they don’t want to do or aren’t ready for.
Since the challenge started, there have been over 50 cats from around the world who have participated, with more joining the fun every day. Some have joined by wearing a harness for the very first time, while others have joined by completing the more advanced tasks like canoeing or swimming. Regardless of where you and your cat are in your journey, there is something for everyone. I hope you’ll join us. In fact, if you complete at least 10 tasks from the challenge list and then share your photos/videos in our Facebook Group or on Instagram, I will send you a KittyCatGO sticker!
