Cincinnati Ferret Favorites

Where to find ferrets and ferret gear in the the Queen City

Ferrets are among the most popular small pets in the United States. Despite their popularity, it can still be difficult to locate services and products for ferrets in the local community. The list below will highlight members of the Greater Cincinnati community who cater to ferret owners or provide products that are safe for ferrets.

Greater Cincinnati Ferret Rescue

The Greater Cincinnati Ferret Rescue (GCFR) was established in 2017 by Cheryl Coleman to replace a previously established rescue that had to close its doors. In the past four years, GCFR has facilitated 14 adoptions and has reconnected two stray ferrets to their families. The rescue currently houses 23 ferrets, many of which require special medical attention. If your family is looking to add a ferret to your household, GCFR is an excellent local resource that will work to find the best fit for your family. Cheryl Coleman can be reached through email at c.coleman [at] brightviewhealth.com for inquiries on available ferrets.

If you are not looking to add a new member to your family but still want to help, you can support GCFR’s mission by making a donation. The rescue currently accepts PayPal donations at cherylchy [at] aol.com. You can also contribute to a sick ferret’s veterinary care by making payments to Dr. Katie Hogan at All Creatures Animal Hospital in Amelia, OH on behalf of GCFR. The rescue also has an Amazon wishlist that you can purchase from to help out. There are plenty of options to help GCFR continue their mission of rescuing ferrets in Cincinnati!

PVO Ferrets

PVO Ferrets is a local ferret breeding and boarding facility run by Pam VanOverloop. Her kits are well bred with sought after angora bloodlines. They are comparable in price to many pet store ferrets but have significantly better genetics and are bred ethically in Pam’s home. If adoption is not how you wish to acquire a ferret, PVO Ferrets is an excellent option.

PVO Ferrets is also home to “Camp Ferret” which provides boarding for ferrets while their owners are away. The price for boarding is $5 per ferret/ per night. Each animal gets individualized care in Pam’s home, so you don’t have to worry about your beloved pets when you go on vacation. To our knowledge, Camp Ferret is the only boarding option available in the Greater Cincinnati region for ferrets. You can access more information about PVO Ferrets on their Facebook page

Pet Wants Cincy

Pet Wants Cincy is a beloved local provider of gourmet pet diets. These stores cater primarily to cats and dogs, but they do have some food options that work for ferrets. The Findlay Market location has an excellent selection of à la carte freeze dried treats ranging from seafood to beef liver. Your ferrets will thank you if you bring home these yummy treats. The best part is that freeze dried raw treats are shelf stable, so they can be stashed wherever your ferrets might desire. Pets Wants Cincy stores also have an excellent selection of toys. Cat toys are wonderful for ferrets due to their small size. All of the local Pet Wants stores are likely to have an ample selection to choose from. You might even get bonus points for bringing your ferrets along to pick out their new toys! The staff for these stores are top notch and they are always welcoming to new furry friends. If shopping in store isn’t for you, Pet Wants Cincy has a full service website where you can set up delivery. Just follow the link! (You can also pick up a copy of CincyPet Magazine at all area Pet Wants locations.)

Pugalicious Pet Treats

Pugalicious Pet Treats is a small business based out of West Chester, OH, that produces small-batch freeze dried treats. Their freeze dried duck products are perfect for ferrets. These treats contain only duck breast and duck liver—no additives or preservatives! The ducks used in these products are also locally sourced from Maple Leaf Farms. Pugalicious Pet Treats is a great option for someone looking to support small local businesses. (Visit one of CincyPet’s upcoming Yappy Hour Market events at MadTree Brewing to pick up some Pugalicious Pet Treats.)

The “Pugalicious Duck Topper” is a ferret favorite. The small pieces quickly rehydrate in water and can be fed as a quick treat or as part of your pet’s weekly meal plan. However you decide to feed this product, it is sure to be a hit. Check out the Pugalicious Pet Treats website to order your treats today!

Cincinnati has a lot to offer pet owners, including ferret lovers. These four ferret friendly service providers are only a small selection of what the city has to offer. Don’t be afraid to get out there and explore with your furry friends! You never know what cool things you will find.
